It’s a new era for Missouri basketball on Friday night. After finishing in last in the SEC last season, the Tigers replaced Kim Anderson with Cuonzo Martin, who had been the coach at Cal and Tennessee.

With the addition of Martin, he quickly pierced together a stellar recruiting class, led by the nation’s No. 1 recruit in Michael Porter Jr. The Tigers also landed commitments from Jontay Porter, a 5-star recruit and Michael’s younger brother, as well as 4-star Jeremiah Tilmon and 4-star point guard Blake Harris and 4-star CJ Roberts. The class ended up being ranked No. 4 in the country and No. 2 in the SEC, behind only Kentucky and its pack of 5-stars.

Porter Jr. is expected to be a top pick in the 2018 NBA Draft and was voted Co-SEC Preseason Player of the Year along with Georgia’s Yante Maten and Texas A&M’s Robert Williams. The Tigers open the season with a tough task against an Iowa State team that made the NCAA Tournament last season.

The Tigers were picked to finish fifth in th e SEC preseason media poll, ahead of teams like Vanderbilt and Arkansas, which made the NCAA Tournament last year. In addition to its standout freshmen, Missouri also brings back Kevin Puryear, who led the Tigers in rebounding last year and averaged 11.8 points per game.

The Tigers and Cyclones tip-off at 9 PM ET on the SEC Network. It will be the first game of the season for both teams.
