Could the Bengals sign Joe Haden?

The fans of 31 teams are all asking themselves the same question this morning: Could they sign Joe Haden?

The two-time Pro Bowl cornerback, whom the Cleveland Browns released this morning, is free to sign with any team at 4 p.m.

Don’t look for the Bengals to be in the mix.

Any team interested in Haden will have to weigh any possible benefits with his injury issues — which in addition to limiting him to five games in 2015 have prevented him from playing a full 16 since his rookie year in 2010 — and what is expected to be a high cost to sign him.

The Bengals already have first-round corners already on the roster in Adam Jones, Dre Kirkpatrick, Darqueze Dennard and William Jackson (three of which have seen the Bengals extend the contracts in the last 15 months), and they plucked third-rounder KeiVarae Russell off the waiver wire last year to fill out the back of the roster.

There’s no guarantee Haden could even start in Cincinnati, and he’d be too expensive to be depth luxury.

Plus the Bengals historically haven’t been active in free agency in spring. so there’s no reason to think they would jump in feet first this close to the season opener.
