Darrell Davis: ‘It’s my turn’ to lead

Dayton senior talks to Nancy Wilson on Facebook Live

Dayton Flyers senior guard Darrell Davis talked to Nancy Wilson, of K99.1-FM, on Facebook Live on Thursday. Here are some highlights of the conversation:

Wilson: How are you different from when you were a freshman?

Davis: I'm physically bigger. I'm more in shape. I'm more mature as a person on and off the court. When I was a freshman, I wasn't the person who had to lead the team. We had people like Scoochie (Smith) and Charles (Cooke) and Kendall (Pollard) and even Jordan Sibert, when he was here, show me the right way. Now that I'm a senior, it's my turn to show everybody else.

Wilson: What advice would you give to the freshmen?

Davis: I would tell them keep working hard. I know there are going to be times when they break down. Every freshman has it. I had it. The freshmen before me had it. Just keep working hard because your time's going to come.

Wilson: What are your goals after graduation?

Davis: I want to play basketball for a bit, probably five or six more years. Hopefully, I get a shot at my dream. If I don't, I know God has a plan for me.

Wilson: What are your goals now that you're a senior, and what do you think this team can do?

Davis: This team can do a lot. We're so versatile. We have people who can play all types of positions. I feel this team has more talent than we did last year with Kostas (Antetokounmpo) being the guy who he is, Xeryius (Williams) being a guy who can interchange, Trey (Landers) being able to play multiple positions. We're lengthy, athletic and can shoot the ball from all five positions. I feel like we have a great chance to win the conference title again.
