Dayton jumps three spots with UD Arena record average

The Dayton Flyers ranked 22nd in the nation in average attendance in the 2016-17 men's basketball season, according to the NCAA. It's Dayton's highest national ranking since 2004-05 when it was 18th with 12,570 fans per game.

The Flyers set a UD Arena record by averaging 13,018 fans in 16 home games. On average, 98.1 percent of the seats in UD Arena were bought. That ranked 21st in the country.

Last season, Dayton ranked 25th in the nation (12,941). UD has ranked in the top 30 in the nation for 20 straight years and has ranked in the top 35 every season since UD Arena opened in 1969-70. It has led the Atlantic 10 in attendance 20 straight years.

UD sets attendance record

Kentucky led the nation in average attendance (23,462). It was one of 15 schools with 100 percent capacity or better. Syracuse (21,181) and Louisville (20,846) were the only other schools to top 20,000.

Ohio State ranked second among Ohio schools with 12,324 fans per game (64.7 percent capacity). Xavier ranked 38th (10,283, 100.3). Cincinnati was 42nd (9,865, 74.9). Wright State ranked 123rd (4,033, 36.6). Miami ranked 251st (1,490, 23.3).

Virginia Commonwealth ranked second among A-10 teams and 66th overall (7,637, 101.8).
