Fans of the Dayton Flyers sent a strong message in their first chance to see an Anthony Grant-led team at the renovated UD Arena.

For the second straight season, UD sold out an exhibition game. A crowd of 13,350 watched Dayton beat Ohio Dominican, a Division II schools, 79-61 on Saturday.

“The arena’s awesome,” said Grant, whose team opens the regular season at 7 p.m. Friday against Ball State at UD Arena. “It’s beautiful. I want to thank (UD Arena Director) Scott DeBolt and his staff for the great job they did getting the place ready for us to be able to showcase it today for our fans and loyal supporters. It’s awesome to be able to come out and play in front of our fans in a great arena.”

That's a slightly lower total than last season when 13,455 fans watched Dayton beat Findlay. That was the first exhibition sellout in school history. The seating total has changed with the renovations at the arena.

Dayton had a crowd of 12,073 at an exhibition game against Saginaw Valley State in 2015. In 2014, a crowd of 11,753 watched Dayton play Southern Indiana.

Last season, Dayton set the single-season attendance record at UD Arena, averaging 13,018 fans.
