Fairfield wrestlers off to strong start in Hamilton sectional

Fairfield moved 10 wrestlers into the semis Friday night and one spot from a line on the bracket at the district tournament.

“The kids have wrestled with a lot of heart,” Laflin said. “Tomorrow is a big day for many of the kids. It is time for them to go earn their trip to Fairmont.”

Nick Feaver (113) and Aidan Bullard (170) were the lone Hamilton wrestlers to advance to the semis.

• Lebanon sits in fourth place at the Lebanon sectional with 46 points. Nationally ranked Mason leads the team race with 111 points.

Patrick Dillon (113), Mikey Nemeth (120), Mike Gallinger (138), Dillon Kurtz (145), John Bates (152) and Jake Boger (220) all moved into the semis for Lebanon.

• Lakota East sits just four points behind Northmont after the first night of the Centerville 1 sectional. East advanced six to the semis.

Lakota West advanced four to the semis and will enter Day 2 in sixth with 54 points.

Hornets third: Monroe turned in a good first night of the Graham 1 sectional.

The Hornets sit in third place with 42 points, one point ahead of Franklin in the team race.

Seven Hornets advanced to the semis, while the Wildcats had six stay alive in the championship bracket.

Fenwick is tied for sixth with Alter, while Talawanda is in ninth after the first day.

In the Graham 2 sectional, Madison is sixth after the first day with 36.5 points. The Mohawks trail team leader Chaminade Julienne by 15 points.

Rams rolling: Ross rolled through the first day of the Division II Batavia sectional, advancing seven to the semis.

The Rams sit in second with 49 points. Western Brown leads the team race with 78.

Jacob Fontaine (126) and Kane Schmidt (132) advanced to the semis for Badin.

On deck: Sectionals conclude Saturday at all sites.

The top four in each weight class advance to the district tournament next weekend.

Wrestling begins at 10 a.m. Saturday at all sites, with consolation matches followed by the semis.

Finals are slated for an hour following the final consolation semi.

Fairmont will host the Division I district tournament. Wilmington (D-II) and Troy (D-III) will also host district events.
