Charles Antetokounmpo, the father of Dayton Flyers forward Kostas Antetokounmpo, died Friday in Milwaukee at 54. According to multiple reports, Charles suffered a heart attack at home.

Dayton coach Anthony Grant released a statement Saturday.

“We are deeply saddened at the news of the passing of Charles Antetokounmpo,” Grant said. “On behalf of the University of Dayton and our basketball family, I wish to extend our deepest sympathies and heartfelt prayers to Kostas and his entire family.”

The Milwaukee Bucks also released a statement. Charles’ son Giannis, Kostas’ older brother, plays for the Bucks.

“The Bucks family is heartbroken about the sudden death of Giannis' father, Charles,” a statement posted to Twitter read. “The entire organization, his teammates and coaches are here to support Giannis and his family during this incredibly difficult time. Charles was a big part of the Bucks and will be terribly missed by us all. On behalf of ownership, we express our utmost condolences and offer our prayers to Giannis and his family.”

Kostas, a redshirt freshman, moved from Greece with his family to Milwaukee when Giannis signed with the Bucks. There are three other brothers: the oldest brother, Francis; Thanasis, who plays professionally in Greece; and Alex, who is still in high school in Milwaukee. Charles is also survived by his wife Veronica.
