Football recruiting: Dunbar’s Tavion Thomas announces change of plans

One of the area’s top high school football seniors is again looking for a college home.

Dunbar running back Tavion Thomas announced Monday morning he is re-opening his recruitment.

Thomas, a three-star in 247Sports composite rankings and the No. 13 prospect in Ohio, had been committed to Oklahoma since midsummer.

He reeled in numerous major offers last spring and summer, including USC, Ohio State and Alabama, before announcing he would be a Sooner.

Thomas was among a few highly-regarded prospects who did not sign in December during the first early signing period for college football.

In January, Thomas made a visit to the University of Cincinnati and tweeted that he received an offer from East Mississippi Community College.

He also suited up for the United States in the ninth International Bowl, a high school all-star game pitting the USA against a team from Canada.

The traditional National Signing Day is next Wednesday.

Thomas' announcement came less than a day after Dunbar teammate Joseph Scates verbally committed to Iowa State.
