Girls Basketball: 10 players to watch for 2016-17 season

The top 10 girls high school basketball players to watch this season:

1. Libby Bazelak, Alter, 5-9, sr.: A four-year starter, the 5-9 guard averaged 14.6 points, 7.6 rebounds and 4.1 assists. Signed with Duquesne.

2. Destiny Bohanon, Wayne, 5-8, so.: A steady back-court presence, averaged 14.2 points.

3. Allie Downing, Tri-Village, 5-10, sr.: Another in a long line of high-scoring Patriots (19.5 points) from the area's most successful small-school program.

4. Cierra Hooks, Thurgood Marshall, 5-9, sr.: Another four-year starter, has averaged 17 points throughout her Cougars career. Signed with Ohio University.

5. Mya Jackson, Wilmington, 5-7, so.: Among the state's leading freshman scorers (17.3).

6. Tia Karras, Miami Valley, 5-8, sr.: Great outside and 3-ball shooter for the Rams (16.1).

7. Jamari McDavid, Kenton Ridge, 5-10, sr.: A four-year starter and force in the middle, led the CBC in scoring (23.4).

8. Shaquille McGruder, Wayne, 6-2, jr.: Outstanding athlete and a top recruit, averaged 15.3 points.

9. Braxtin Miller, Alter, 6-0, sr.: Yet another four-year starter and the MVP last year's state title team. Led the GCL Co-Ed in scoring (17.0). Signed with Oklahoma State.

10. Rachel Murray, Waynesville, 5-6, so.: A high-scoring player (18.1) who could reset all the significant Spartans' offensive records.
