Harbaugh thrilled by Miami’s historic win

Baltimore head coach John Harbaugh has his hands full getting his first-place Ravens ready to play the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, but he admitted that’s not been the only game on his radar this week.

On a conference call with Cincinnati media, Harbaugh said he was thrilled for his alma mater and head coach Chuck Martin after the Miami RedHawks made history Tuesday night in Oxford.

“It’s awesome. I was so fired up,” Harbaugh said after Miami became the first time in FBS history to start a season 0-6 and finish with six wins in a row to become bowl eligible.

“Coach Martin, he’s my guy. I think they’re doing a great job,” Harbaugh added. “I was kind of hoping for an OU loss, but Akron couldn’t pull that off for us. I’m proud of them. Great job by those guys.”

Miami’s 21-20 win against Ball State coupled with an Ohio loss would have given the RedHawks the MAC East title, but the Bobcats beat Akron 9-3.

Before reporters could move on with the conference call and ask Harbaugh about his Ravens, he had a Miami question to ask them.

“What bowl are they going to go to, do you think?”

There are several possibilities. And wherever they end up, you can bet Harbaugh will be paying attention.
