Hartsock: Brookville eyeing deeper postseason run

A 5-5 record was good enough to get Brookville into the playoffs last season, but the Blue Devils are well aware that might not be good enough in 2017.

One thing going in their favor is the Southwestern Buckeye League is loaded, which can help pile up some playoff points.

“We’re not going to apologize for getting into the playoffs at 5-5,” Blue Devils head coach Mike Hetrick said. “We hope to improve on that and definitely go further than the first round that we did last year.”

Brookville will rely heavily on the talents of senior Bailey Wallen this season. The running back should be one of the best in the Miami Valley in 2017.

“Everybody knows how good Bailey is,” Hetrick said. “Our job right not is to get guys around him. We’re going to have to have more than Bailey to compete.”

Brookville opens at home against Tri-County North on Aug. 25.
