Lewis not concerned about possible suspension for Vontaze Burfict hit

Cincinnati Bengals head coach dismissed the notion the NFL is looking into linebacker Vontaze Burfict's hit on Patriots tight end Martellus Bennett in Sunday's 35-17 loss at New England.

“The league looks at every play,” Lewis said. “It happens every game.”

Lewis declined comment on whether he thought the hit, which was delivered to the back of Bennett’s leg on a pass not intended for him, was clean.

The play in question happened early in the fourth quarter. New England quarterback Tom Brady gave a pump fake in the direction of Bennett before completing a 17-yard pass to Danny Amendola.

When asked if he was concerned it would draw a suspension, Lewis said, “There’s no concern.”

Given Burfict’s history of violations of the player-safety rules, the hit could at least draw a fine.
