D’Mitrik Trice commits to Wisconsin

D’MITRIK TRICE

Personal: 6-1, 179 pounds.

IMG Academy (Fla.): 2015-16.

Wayne H.S.: 2015 grad.

Another Trice is headed to the Big Ten to play basketball.

Wayne High School graduate D’Mitrik Trice verbally committed to the University of Wisconsin this past weekend after visiting the Madison campus. He had favored the Badgers ever since working out for an assistant coach earlier this month at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., where he attended this school year.

Trice’s older brother Travis Trice II played four seasons at rival Michigan State and was a key starter on the 2014-15 Spartans team that advanced to the NCAA final four. Their father, Wayne boys basketball coach Travis Trice, initially began his collegiate career at Purdue, then transferred to Butler.

D’Mitrik Trice previously said he also was considering Ohio State, DePaul, Vanderbilt and some Mid-American Conference programs. He’s listed at 6 feet 1 and 179 pounds – about 20 pounds heavier than he played at Wayne.

A point guard, Trice averaged 16.2 points and 6.1 assists for IMG last season. He was a backcourt starter for two seasons at Wayne and also was a key player on the 2014-15 Warriors team that won the Division I state championship, a program first.

Trice was just as renowned in football. A two-year starter at quarterback, he guided the Warriors into the 2014 D-I state championship as a senior and was a D-I state co-offensive player of the year.

“I’ve been talking to my dad and praying about things,” Trice said two weeks ago after Wisconsin then OSU made offers. “I know everything is in God’s hands and everything happens for a reason. I feel like I’m trusting the positive. I know I’ll end up in the right spot.”

Wisconsin also landed a verbal commitment from Trice’s IMG teammate, 6-7 Aleem Ford from Lawrenceville, Georgia.

“Those two guys are extremely close,” Trice Sr. told BadgerNation.com. “(Playing together) is something they’ve thought about. These guys are going to be great assets and they’re getting the chance to come in and do it together.”

Travis Trice II was a season-long starter for the Westchester Knicks of the NBA Developmental League this past season. He averaged 15.3 points and 5.7 assists.

Another area product, Dunbar grad A.J. Harris, has not announced His transfer plans. Harris played at OSU this past season and was one of four freshmen to have since left the Buckeyes’ program.
