MLB: Former Red Zack Cozart has found his new team

Whatever slim chance there was of the Cincinnati Reds re-signing Zack Cozart is gone.

The shortstop signed a three-year contract with the Los Angeles Angels on Friday.

According to multiple reports, the deal is worth $38 million for a player the Reds drafted in the second round out of Mississippi in 2007.

The 32-year-old All-Star is coming off his best offensive season, having hit .297 with 24 homers and 63 RBIs.

For his career, Cozart is a .254 batter with 82 homers and 280 RBIs in 743 games at the major-league level.

He hit .280 with 14 homers and 49 RBIs for the Dayton Dragons in 2008.

Earlier this week, Reds GM Dick Williams said the team is committed to Jose Peraza getting an opportunity to be the shortstop in Cincinnati in 2018.

Peraza began last season as the team’s starting second baseman but eventually lost that job to Scooter Gennett.

The rest of the every-day eight from 2017 are scheduled to be back, though there have been reports the Reds will at least listen to offers for outfielders Billy Hamilton, Adam Duvall and Scott Schebler as they look to make room for Jesse Winker to play in the big leagues.

What is big air? It’s the Olympics’ newest snowboard event

On the list of snowboarding events for this year’s Winter Olympics, alongside the now familiar halfpipe and slopestyle, is a new competition with a short but evocative name: big air.   The name is accurate. Everything about the event is big. And the dizzying heights achieved by the snowboarders more than justifies the “air.&rdquo...

He spent last season in the Mets' organization, playing a total of 126 games across two different levels of Class A baseball. In a video...

Dodgers All-Star Cody Bellinger plans to avoid a sophomore slump

Cody Bellinger slipped through the netting of a Camelback Ranch batting cage and gazed at a pitching machine. Dodgers hitting coach Turner Ward manned the contraption, which dolloped late spin onto each offering. Bellinger slashed a pair of line drives before whacking a few foul and others into the ground. “That’s a big-league knock,&rdquo...

The 22nd-largest team at the Olympics: Zamboni drivers

The Winter Olympics are a global competition, with athletes representing 92 countries. But one event is dominated by Americans and Canadians like no other: Zamboni driving. It is conspicuous, this army of 37 mostly imported Zamboni drivers, doing their quiet, mesmerizing work of resurfacing the ice, back and forth on their big machines, when the action...

NBA All-Star game shows some toughness after a makeover

The last two NBA All-Star games set records for points and indifference. Sunday’s game was less forgiving: There was more effort, scoring was harder to come by and the exciting final minutes brought the crowd to its feet. It felt far from the 2017 All-Star Game, in which Stephen Curry lay flat on the court to avoid being victimized by Giannis...
