Ohio State Buckeyes’ J.T. Barrett named top quarterback in Big Ten

Mike Weber named conference’s top freshman

Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback J.T. Barrett won the Big Ten’s Griese-Brees Quarterback of the Year award Wednesday, bringing the award to Ohio State for the fourth time in five years.

Barrett, a redshirt junior, tallied 3,275 yards of total offense (2,428 pass, 847 rush). He completed 214 of his 346 passes and only five interceptions. He was responsible for 33 touchdowns (passing and rushing), the most in the Big Ten.

Barrett also won the award in 2014. Braxton Miller was honored in 2012 and 2013.

The Big Ten handed out its other offensive awards Wednesday, and the Buckeyes won two other top honors.

Senior center Pat Elflein was named Rimington-Pace Offensive Lineman of the Year, following former teammate Taylor Decker, who won the award last year.

Redshirt freshman Mike Weber took home the Thompson-Randle El Freshman of the Year. Barrett won the award in 2014. Miller won it in 2011.

In addition to Barrett and Elflein, hybrid back Curtis Samuel and guard Billy Price made the All-Big Ten First team. Weber and offensive tackle Jamarco Jones were named to the second team.

Penn State’s Saquon Barkely was named the Graham-George Offensive Player of the Year.

The Cincinnati Bengals gambled Friday night by trading down seven spots in the second round. Whether they won or lost depends on your view on the value of forgiveness, redemption and rehabilitation. Actually, whether they won or lost may not be known for many years, until Joe Mixon exits the NFL as a redeemed or repeat offender. The Bengals drafted...

After taking offensive players with their first two selections, the Cincinnati Bengals added some help to their pass rush by drafting Kansas State defensive end Jordan Willis in the third round with the 73rd overall pick. Dragons to play two Saturday after rainout

There will be plenty of Dragons baseball at Fifth Third Field this weekend — a full game more than originally anticipated. Due to a thunderstorm that went through the area, Friday’s game against Great Lakes never started and was postponed to Saturday, when the Dragons (12-9) will play a doubleheader against the Loons (9-12) starting at...
