Popular Jim Day added to Cincinnati Reds radio broadcast team

Jim Day, the longtime pregame, post-game host, dugout reporter and all-around presence on Fox Sports Ohio’s television coverage of the Cincinnati Reds will be part of the team’s radio coverage in 2018.

The Reds announced Day would be covering play-by-play duties when Marty Brennaman was off and would join Brennaman in the booth when Jeff Brantley is television coverage. Day will also continue to contribute to the pregame and post-game coverage for radio on those days.

Day was praised by Reds fans on Reds Reddit and Twitter when he filled in on play-by-play on television coverage in spots the last several years. With Jim Kelch let go by the Reds, Day would replace much of his coverage.

“Adding Jim Day as our fill-in for radio play-by-play brings familiarity and credibility to the booth, while simplifying the mix of talent for our fans.”

The Reds have used an inordinate amount of announcers the last several years. One count had as many as 10 last year with a rotation between regular rotation of part timers, and announcers bouncing between radio and television coverage.

Day, who used to host Columbus Blue Jackets coverage on Fox Sports Ohio, has been in broadcasting for 29 years. The upcoming season will be his 17t as host of the team’s pregame show and his 15th as post-game host.
