Recruiting roundup: Kentucky claims another while Akron invading for basketball?

A trio of commitments lead off this recruiting roundup.

Shawnee senior Jack McCrory got it all started last weekend when the Braves running back announced he is going to be an Ohio Bobcat.

Before the weekend was over, Lakota West defensive lineman Tyler Bentley let it be known he is joining Big Blue Nation and Wayne defensive end Alex Reigelsperger as a Kentucky Wildcat.

Thursday night, Jadon Rucker-Furlow of Belmont joined the party by announcing he will play his college ball in Oxford for Miami.

That makes six area players who have made their picks for 2018. In addition to the four already mentioned, Malik Vann of Fairfield has committed to Cincinnati while Marion Local offensive lineman John Dirksen is going to Notre dame…

Also this week: Trotwood-Madison running back Raveion Hargrove shared his top five schools heading into summer.

The electrifying running back will be choosing from Toledo, Miami, Kent State, Bowling Green and Ball State, although that list might be fluid.

He later tweeted plans to visit Illinois for the Fighting Illini’s “Friday Night Lights” camp this weekend…

Xavier Peters, a four-star linebacker at Lakota West, also shared his top 10 this week.

He could be the next Firebird to head to Alabama, stay close to home at UC or do something else entirely, but one thing is certain: He has become one of the hottest prospects in the area since signing day in February…

There were also major developments on the basketball side of recruiting this week as Akron made offers to 2019 prospects from Trotwood-Madison, Xenia and Sidney.

The Zips new coaching staff became the first offer for Sidney’s Andre Gordon and Samari Curtis of Xenia.

Amari Davis, a junior-to-be at Trotwood-Madison, also added an Akron offer this week after Cleveland State became the first Division I school to offer him a scholarship.

In between, Toledo became offer No. 2 for Davis, who averaged 16.1 points per game for the Rams as they advanced to the state tournament in Columbus.

Curtis led the GWOC in scoring at 24.1 points per game.

He is the No. 148 prospect and No. 22 shooting guard in the country according to 247sports.

Davis is just behind him at No. 157 overall and No. 24 among shooting guards.

They are ranked third and fifth, respectively, in the state of Ohio for 2019.

Gordon averaged 19.7 points per game last season to finish fourth in the GWOC in scoring.
