Recruiting roundup: 2 more area players pick Big Ten schools

With summer officially under way, the area recruiting scene continues to heat up.

Two more pairs of teammates have announced where they are going to play their college football since our last recruiting roundup.

Mason offensive lineman Eric Miller got it started June 17 when he announced he will play in the Big Ten at Purdue.

New Boilermakers coach Jeff Brohm has 14 commits already, including three players from Ohio. The class is ranked 10th in the Big Ten but 43rd in the nation as of this writing.

Six days after Miller announced his decision, teammate Christian Hutchinson verbally committed to Navy.

Hutchinson caught six passes for 161 yards and a pair of touchdowns last season for the Comets, who went 7-5 and won a first-round playoff game…

North of Dayton is another school that can already boast of two players verbally committed to Division I schools even before the end of summer camp season.

Sidney running back Isaiah Bowser made the call Friday, announcing he is headed to Northwestern after he's done starring for the Yellow Jackets.

A day later, defensive lineman Devin Rogers followed suit.

In a slick video, Rogers narrowed his list before revealing he intends to be a Toledo Rocket.

Bowser led the GWOC in rushing last season with 1,877 yards. He scored 28 touchdowns on the ground and scored two more on receptions.

He had five 200-yard games, including a 281-yard night against Bellefontaine in Week 2 and a 277-yard game against Greenville in the season finale…

That brings the total number of commits in the area to 11.

Previously committing: Fairfield defensive end Malik Vann (Cincinnati), Marion Local offensive lineman John Dirksen (Notre Dame), Wayne defensive end Alex Reigelsperger (Kentucky), Dunbar running back Tavion Thomas (Oklahoma), Belmont defensive back Jadon Rucker-Furlow (Miami University), Lakota West defensive lineman Tyler Bentley (Kentucky) and Shawnee running back/linebacker Jack McCrory (Ohio).

The area’s biggest – literally and figuratively – recruiting prize remains uncommitted, and Jackson Carman is doing more than working on his game this summer.

The five-star offensive tackle from Fairfield made a visit to southern California last week to check out USC.

While the 2018 class is loaded, the 2019 group is starting to look pretty strong, too.

Defensive lineman Steve Faucheux of Lakota West and Isaiah Gibson of Springfield were both recently featured by Land of 10 as they both took part in Ohio State one-day camps earlier this month.

Neither has an OSU offer yet, but both rising juniors reported enjoying some one-on-one time with Ohio State defensive line coach Larry Johnson Sr.

"It would just boost my confidence even more," Gibson said of potentially receiving an offer to be a Buckeye. "I've still got two years. To be talking to Coach Johnson and coming up here and doing all this — it's just amazing…"

And it’s not only big men getting the early attention.

Alter quarterback Connor Bazelak, who visited Pittsburgh with running back John Bivens earlier this month, was offered by Toledo on June 16.

Earlier in the month, Kentucky became the first school to offer the Knight junior-to-be…

Finally we return to the world of basketball recruiting.

Last time out we noted Xenia junior Samari Curtis had received his first Division I offer from Akron.

The GWOC’s reigning scoring leader has another MAC option after Toledo offered over the weekend.
