Reds reach contract agreements with four arbitration-eligible players

The Reds announced Friday they have settled with all of their arbitration-eligible players for 2017.

Billy Hamilton, Zack Cozart, Tony Cingrani and Blake Wood all signed one-year deals ahead of potential hearings with an arbitrator.

According to MLB.com, Cozart will make $5.325 million this year at shortstop while Hamilton will make $2.625 million in center field.

Cingrani and Wood, both relievers, will make $1.825 million and $1.275 million, respectively.

Cozart and to a lesser extent Hamilton have both been identified as part of rumored trade talks this offseason while the relievers figure to be part of a bullpen that hopes to bounce back from being one of the worst in baseball history.

The 31-year-old Cozart will be eligible for free agency next season, and trading him would make room for hot-shot prospect Jose Peraza to play every day at one position instead of potentially bouncing around to spell multiple players.

A move of Hamilton is reportedly unlikely, but club officials have said they would be willing to listen to offers for just about anyone on the team.

Manager Bryan Price has gone on record about his interest in deploying his relievers in hybrid roles rather than assigning the eighth and ninth innings to particular players, but he has to have multiple players he can rely on to try to make that work.
