Reds’ Scooter Gennett up for 2017 Roberto Clemente award

Scooter Gennett has been about the best late-season pickup any team could ask for.

The Reds’ second baseman, in the midst of a career-year, is the team’s nominee for the 2017 Roberto Clemente award.

Selected by the club, those chosen are “players whose various involvements in the community focus on important issues ranging from awareness & fundraising of childhood cancer and other illnesses, education, care for veterans, outreach to underserved children & communities in the United States and abroad, and more,” according to MLB press release.

Gennett has hit .297 with 23 homers and 82 RBIs in his first season with the Reds.
