Report: San Francisco Giants interested in Reds’ Billy Hamilton

The Cincinnati Reds might have a suitor if they decide trade Billy Hamilton this winter.

With the annual general manager meetings taking place this week, J.P. Morosi reports the San Francisco Giants “have shown interest” in the speedy centerfielder.

Their reason makes plenty of sense as Hamilton has proven to be one of the best defenders in the game even though he keeps getting snubbed for the Gold Glove.

Their home park offers more outfield space to roam than many, too, for what that’s worth.

It remains to be seen how interested the Red might actually be in trading Hamilton, a second-round pick they have spent a lot of time developing and an exciting, marketable player on a team that doesn’t have a lot to market or be excited about.

They will have some decisions to make in terms of how to make room for some prospects coming up in the next year or two, though, and getting out of the National League Central basement sooner rather than later might require some creativity and hard decisions.
