Bengals’ top pick says no structural damage to knee, just soreness

UPDATE: 1:31 p.m. — Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver John Ross is watching practice in street clothes.

Cincinnati Bengals first-round pick John Ross said the knee issue that kept him out of Sunday’s game at Green Bay is a lingering effect from the injury he suffered in the preseason finale at Indianapolis and that there’s no structural damage.

“It’s just soreness,” Ross said. “But it’s getting better. That’s the most important part.”

Ross said the start to his rookie season has been frustrating.

“There’s nothing worse than being the guy coming in that has high expectations and then you’re not able to show to people the things you can do,” Ross said. “For me, it’s been a very slow start. I want to change that. Not so much for the outside, but for the guys inside. Building that trust and being one of the guys.”

Ross hasn’t practiced since being limited last Wednesday. The Bengals begin practice at 1 p.m. today.
