Signing Day: 7 things to know about Ohio State, UC, Miami and more

National Signing Day is one day away, and more than a dozen local prospects are set to make their college selections official.

Here is what you need to know before it gets started Wednesday morning:

1. Miamisburg offensive tackle Josh Myers is the No. 1 prospect* not only in the Miami Valley but all of Ohio, and he has already enrolled at Ohio State.

Myers is one of six area players in the state's top 50 prospects. Joining him are Springfield receiver Danny Davis (No. 8, undecided), Kings offensive lineman Matt Sichterman (19, Nebraska), Mason defensive end Alex King (26, Kentucky), Fairfield defensive back Josiah Scott (36, Michigan State) and Piqua linebacker Darien Tipps (44, Michigan State).

2. Davis is the top uncommitted player in the area and the state.

The versatile Wildcat is set to announce his decision Wednesday in a ceremony at Springfield High School.

The four-star prospect’s offers include Wisconsin, Kentucky, West Virginia, Michigan State, Iowa, Nebraska and Cincinnati.

3. Ohio State has commitments from four of the top five players in Ohio.

Myers, Brendon White of Olentangy Liberty, Amir Riep of Colerain and Jaylen Harris of Cleveland Heights. Lynn Bowden (ranked third) of Warren Harding is going to Kentucky.

The Buckeyes' class is ranked No. 1 in the Big Ten and second nationally (behind Alabama).

Urban Meyer has signed a top five national class every year since he got to Columbus in late 2011, and this year’s group includes players from California, Florida, Indiana, Maryland, Nevada, New York and Texas along with Ohio.

4. Cincinnati’s class approaches signing day it is 73rd in the nation and fifth in the AAC according to 247sports.

However, Scout.com is much more bullish on new coach Luke Fickell’s first class, ranking the Bearcats 64th nationally and No. 2 behind Memphis in the conference.

UC’s class has players from eight states, including local prospects Cody Lamb of Miamisburg and Cole Smith of Middletown.

The top-rated Bearcat commit as of this writing is four-star defensive back R.J. Potts of Fishers, Ind.

5. Miami’s class is ranked 88th in the country and No. 5 in the MAC.

RedHawks coach Chuck Martin’s class has 19 hard commits from nine states, including four Ohioans.

The top prospect is Joshua Maize, a three-star defensive end from Deerfield, Ill.

6. Alabama has the No. 1 class in the country one day ahead of signing day.

Ohio State is No. 2 followed by Georgia, Michigan, Florida State and LSU.

Our partners at SECCountry.com are calling this potentially the best of Nick Saban's Crimson Tide recruiting classes, which would be saying quite a bit, but Ohio State has a higher average star rating at this point.

7. Defending national champion Clemson is 13th in the nation.

The Tigers have only 14 commits heading into signing day and trail Florida State in the ACC.

Dabo Swinney’s class includes one Ohioan — Cincinnati St. Xavier offensive lineman Matt Bockhorst.
