SPORTS DAILY: Dayton native Cole a good match for Cavs?

It would seem a simple solution. The defending NBA champion Cleveland Cavaliers need someone to come off the bench, handle the ball professionally and keep LeBron James from launching into more postgame screeds about their top-heavy roster.

I’m officially nominating Dayton native Norris Cole for the role.

The Dunbar High School graduate needs a job, theoretically, and he's featured in a cleveland.com slide show about point guards who could be available, along with Mario Chalmers and about 10 others.

Reports say Cole is almost back to full health after a hamstring injury cut short his tenure with a Chinese team, which released him two months ago after he had trouble striking a deal to stay in the NBA.

Assuming he's good to go and doesn't expect to break the bank, it's hard to see this as anything but a reasonable match, especially since the parties have been in touch in the past.

Cole even starred at Cleveland State and remains a favorite Cleveland son, albeit an adopted one. He would be welcomed warmly. What’s more, he won two championships with the Miami Heat playing alongside LeBron, who has always been complimentary, at least in public.

LeBron even accidentally set a pick for Cole in a preseason game when they were no longer teammates. They know each other well.

Problem solved, right?
