Springfield senior Cameron Hoelscher commits to Army

Springfield High School senior linebacker Cameron Hoelscher gave his verbal commitment to Army on Saturday. He announced his decision on Twitter.

“First I want to thank God for putting me in the position I am in today,” Hoelscher wrote, “and blessing me with the abilities to play at the next level. I want to thank my family, friends, mentors and coaches for guiding me and pushing me every single day. I want to thank every college coach who recruited me and gave me an opportunity to play at their school. I decided I will be spending my academic and athletic career at the United States Military Academy!”

Hoelscher is a three-star recruit in the class of 2018, according to 247Sports. He ranks 45th among inside linebackers in the nation and 46th among all players in Ohio. Army offered him a scholarship on June 26.

Hoelscher is one of 15 returning starters for the Wildcats. He led the team with 88 tackles last season. The Wildcats finished 7-4. Moses Douglass, Leonard Taylor and Isaiah Gibson are other recruits from Springfield with scholarship offers.

In July, Hoelscher said Army, Kentucky, Air Force and Bowling Green were his top choices but he was also in contact with other schools, including Rutgers and Purdue.

“It’s crazy — there are so many blessings, but it’s crazy how many people want you,” he said. “It’s just a crazy process.”
