Steelers to be without Big Ben longer than 1st anticipated, per report

Ben Roethlisberger’s injury situation might be worse than first thought.

ESPN reported Wednesday the former Miami RedHawk and current Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback could be out as many as six weeks after having knee surgery this week.

He could also be back in four, but either way it’s longer than the original expected absence of 2-3 weeks.

The 4-2 Steelers lead the AFC North by one game over the Baltimore Ravens and two games over the Bengals as they head into a matchup with the 5-1 Patriots this Sunday.

After a bye, Pittsburgh travels to Baltimore then plays host to the Cowboys, so the timing of the injury is far from ideal.

The timeline from the latest report would have him potentially ready to face the Browns on Nov. 20 or Colts four days later on Thanksgiving.

However, with an extended break to end November, could he remain out until a Dec. 4 visit from the Giants to assure he’s ready for the final stretch run?

Only time will tell, but Roethlisberger has proven to be one to play without being 100 percent before.

The Steelers beat the Bengals 24-16 in Week 2, and the rematch is scheduled for prime time Dec. 18.
