Former Wayne High School star Messiah deWeaver made his college debut Saturday for Michigan State, and, well, it could have gone better.

The former Warrior got into the Spartans' game at Ohio State late in the fourth quarter and was sacked on his first play.

On his second play, the redshirt freshman was sacked again.

After a 20-yard scramble on his third play gained back all the yardage lost, he was dropped behind the line of scrimmage one more time on fourth down.

The Spartans turned the ball over on downs, and Ohio State ran the clock out on a 48-3 win.

The trip back to his home state wasn’t a total loss for deWeaver, though.

He found a minute to catch up with former teammate Robert Landers when the game was over.

One of the top quarterback prospects in the country in the class of 2016, deWeaver threw for 2,924 yards and 32 touchdowns as a senior at Wayne.

The Warriors advanced to the Division I state championship game, where they lost to Lakewood St. Edward.

He started his career at Trotwood-Madison, where he was part of three more deep playoff runs.
