With a contract year coming, Burfict’s numbers don’t lie

Bengals linebacker got the job done last season, albeit his third straight shortened campaign

So you’re going a little bit nuts idling on the football wagon, and there’ll be no jumping off for another month-plus before NFL training camps open. You need a fix, a pigskin infusion, to hold your sanity.

Here's betting that, if you're a Bengals fan, this interesting look at linebacker Vontaze Burfict will do the trick – at least for a while.

One John Sheeran -- under research presently as it's unclear just who he is, what he does, whom he does it for, and how he came to be so darned interesting – put together this "The Numbers They Tell You a Lot," segment diving deep on the Burfict effect. It can be found on YouTube.

This is a fascinating look at the Bengals’ occasionally combustible LB, replete with reams of video, and a whole bunch of statistics that add up – at least the way Sheeran cuts them – to project No. 55 (@King55Tez on Twitter, which is where this was found) as a near-peer of Carolina MLB Luke Kuechley, perhaps the NFL’s best ‘backer.

With a season to be played, this makes it difficult to argue that Vontaze makes a big difference. He just needs to spend more time on the field. Injuries and suspensions have sidelined him, and saddled the Bengals, for chunks of the past three seasons, or since Burfict’s breakout season in 2013.

Watch, listen, enjoy, whet the appetite of your football Jones, and stop shaking.
