Wright State baseball scores upset of nationally ranked team

After a disappointing opening weekend at Tulane, the Wright State baseball team bounced back with an 8-2 upset of No. 20 Louisiana-Lafayette on Friday.

The Raiders jumped on the Rajun Cajuns for four runs in the first inning, and sophomore right-hander Ryan Weiss limited the hosts to two runs on three hits through seven innings.

Last year WSU opened the season by winning two of three at No. 10 Clemson, and the following weekend the Raiders won the final of a three-game set at No. 4 South Carolina.

Friday’s win was the first of the year for WSU suffering a three-game series sweep at Tulane last weekend.

Gabe Snyder went 2 for 4 with three RBIs, two of which came on a triple as part of the four-run first inning. Snyder also had an RBI double and scored twice. Zach Weatherford doubled in a run, and Bentley Jones and Seth Gray each added a single and an RBI.

The Raiders return to action at Louisiana-Lafayette at 3 p.m. today, and they will wrap the weekend series at 2 p.m. Sunday.
