WSU’s Collins earns another pitching honor

The season is barely a month old and already Wright State senior left-hander Zane Collins has won two Horizon League Pitcher of the Week awards, the second of which was announced Monday.

Collins capped a three-game sweep of Valparaiso on Sunday, holding the Crusaders scoreless through six innings on the way to a 7-0 win for the Raiders in the first HL series of the year.

Collins also chosen as the Pitcher of the Week on March 6, following seven shutout innings against Wofford. He is 2-2 this season with 1.84 ERA. Collins has struck out 31 in 29.1 innings with eight walks.

The Raiders (12-6, 3-0 Horizon) will play at Xavier on Tuesday before returning to league action with three-game home series against Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Dayton lost 6-2 to the Lake County Captains at Fifth Third Field in front of an announced crowd of 8,440. Dayton fell to 42-31 overall and 1-2 in the second-half Midwest League season. A Lake County...
Hartsock: Better luck next time for Bailey

I’m not sure what’s more frustrating for Reds fans — Homer Bailey’s 2017 debut or knowing that he’s still under contract the next two years to the tune of $44 million. The veteran right-hander sure didn’t look like the guy who breezed through three rehab starts, including one in Dayton. Of course those were against...
Sidney football standout commits to Mid-American Conference school

Another day, another college commitment from a Sidney High School standout. On Saturday, defensive tackle Devan Rogers announced on his Twitter account a verbal commitment to the University of Toledo. The 6-foot-2, 285-pound senior was a first-team, Greater Western Ohio Conference North Division honoree last season. Rogers finished fifth in the conference...

What’s next for Dunbar football after non-renewal of coach?

Darran Powell sensed this would happen. Coaches are like that. They envision things before they happen. It’s what they learn to do. And they’re good at it. It was March. Mark Baker, in his first school year as the Dayton Public Schools director of athletics, had been approved for a two-year contract extension by the DPS school board. &ldquo...
