WSU player nominated for Golden Spikes Award

Wright State junior pitcher Danny Sexton is one of 40 players on the USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award watch list, which was released Wednesday.

The Golden Spikes Award is presented annually to the top amateur baseball player in the country. The winner will be announced June 29 in Los Angeles.

Sexton is 6-0 in seven starts with a 1.22 ERA for the Raiders, who are 22-8 overall and 11-1 atop the Horizon League standings. Sexton has allowed 38 hits in 51.2 innings with 34 strikeouts and 11 walks.

He is the third player in WSU history to be nominated for the Golden Spikes Award, joining Jeremy Hamilton (2008) and Brian Anderson (1993).

Reed (2014), Kris Bryant (2013), Mike Zunino (2012), Trevor Bauer (2011), Bryce Harper (2010), Stephen Strasburg (2009) and Buster Posey (2008).
