DoD pays DP&L $28M+ for Wright-Patt power

DP&L has been awarded a more than $28 million contract for services at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, the Department of Defense said Thursday.

The award to Dayton Power and Light Co. is for electricity supplied to the base.

The contract expires Dec. 31, 2019.

The Air Force Life Cycle Management Center, based at Wright-Patterson, is the contracting activity.

Total military and civilian employment at the base is approaching 30,000 people. With key logistics and research functions based at Wright-Patterson, the installation is the largest single-site employer in the state of Ohio.

Most recently, the U.S. Air Force named the base its preferred home for the F-35 Lightning II Hybrid Product Support Integrator organization.

Such a designation makes the base the worldwide support hub for all F-35 customers — and opens the door to 440 new Dayton-area jobs.
