Fram announces $5.4M Greenville plant expansion

Fram Filtration today announced a $5.4 million expansion at its Greenville manufacturing facility to add a fourth oil filter production line, bringing the plant’s annual capacity to more than 100 million oil filters.

The 20,000-square-foot expansion revives an area of the plant that was previously idled “due to manufacturing consolidations,” said John Staub, plant manager.

Staub said the new state-of-the-art facility can produce more than 400 models of Fram’s latest generation oil filters.

“The plant itself will produce over 400,000 filters a day in total with a crew of 380 employees. We will manufacture over 100 million filters this year,” Staub said.

The Fram facility at 851 Jackson St. in Greenville has three additional production lines and manufactures oil filters for passenger vehicles.

In 2011, the plant employed 180 workers and produced about 40 million filters a year when Fram was acquired by Rank Group Ltd. from Honeywell International Inc.

Rank has invested more than $10 million into the plant and more than doubled its workforce since 2011, including the addition of more than 100 workers over the last year, Staub said.

“Three years ago, when we were given an opportunity to work on behalf of Fram and save 150 jobs, I would have never guessed the growth they would experience, as their employment has grown to almost 400 jobs,” said Greenville Mayor Mike Bowers.

Darke County Economic Development Director Marc Saluk credited incentive programs put together by the state of Ohio, Darke County and the city of Greenville to ensure the retention of the Fram facility.

Fram hosted an event today celebrating the opening of the new production line and the company’s growth in Greenville, where it has operated since 1951.

State officials expected to attend the event included Ohio Senate President Keith Faber, R-Celina; Sen. Bill Beagle, R- Tipp City; Rep. Jim Buchy, R-Greenville; and Rep. Steve Huffman, R-Troy.
