Honda sees sales slip slightly in January

American Honda Motor Co. Inc. recently reported January sales of 104,542 Honda and Acura vehicles, a decrease of about 2 percent compared to January 2017.

Honda cars were down 1.3 percent, while Honda’s truck sales slipped 1.8 percent compared to January last year, according to information from the company.

The automarker is a major local employer, with about 1,400 workers from Clark and Champaign counties.

Total Acura Division sales fell 3.2 percent, although Acura total car sales gained 9.3 percent. Acura’s luxury sedan sales saw a boost from the TLX, which saw sales increase 13 percent, and the RLX.

“Led by the TLX A-Spec, we’re pleased to see our efforts with Acura sedans paying off in the face of a challenging market for luxury cars,” said Jon Ikeda, vice president and general manager of Acura Sales in a news release.
