Huber Heights medical practice plans move, expansion

Zoning approval first step in move to Shull Road.

The owners of a Huber Heights medical office intend to move to a new in-city location and expand the number of employees.

Digestive Specialists, an area outpatient gastroenterology clinic, earned re-zoning approval for a site at 5711 Shull Road. The current Huber Heights practice is at 7415 Brandt Pike.

“It is a current doctor within Huber Heights who is relocating within the city but is basically doubling the size of the office,” said Assistant City Manager Scott Falkowski of Dr. Rajkamal Jit, a doctor at the practice with offices across the Miami Valley. “He really wanted to stay within the city.”

The new site where the 16,000-square-foot clinic will be built is to the west of New Seasons Ministry Church, formerly Church of the Carpenter. The new site was split away from the church site by the planning commission.

The building will feature brick, stone and metal panels on all four sides. Outside, there will be 83 parking spots and extensive landscaping. There will also be two access points from the parking lot to Shull Road.

“With emergency vehicles and also some of the turning traffic, staff felt this was acceptable and the planning commission did as well,” Falkowski said.

While a detailed development plan is forthcoming, Falkowski said the medical clinic will fit well in the area.

“The properties to the west are office and medical office uses, so this does fit in with the character of Shull Road,” he said, explaining the plans to City Council.

Council praised city staff for working to retain the local business, which Falkowski said could double in staff from 30 to 60.

“What I was truly impressed with and want to express to my colleagues is that you are keeping a business in Huber Heights that could have relocated elsewhere,” said Vice Mayor Tyler Starline. “This is, I think, a win-win for the city. Keeping a business and expanding a business within the community.”

Added Councilman Mark Campbell, “Medical is something very worth while for our residents and I just couldn’t be happier.”

Plans for the Brandt Pike location were not disclosed during the planning commission meeting. Jit’s practice has an additional two years on its lease there, but did not know what would replace the clinic after the move.
