The event was intended to help prevent medication abuse and theft by providing a safe, easy and anonymous way of getting prescription drugs out of the home.

“Tens of thousands of pills will never have the chance to be abused or misused because people throughout Ohio participated in Take Back Day,” DeWine said in a statement. “When Ohioans properly dispose of their unneeded medications, they are playing a very important role in the fight against addiction.”

Those who are still in possession of unneeded prescription drugs can drop them off at one of several prescription drug drop box locations across the state.
