Premier Health has earned Magnet status for its entire system, which is a professional nursing recognition given by a subsidiary of the American Nurses Association.

Staff at Upper Valley Medical Center, Miami Valley Hospital and Atrium Medical Center were told Thursday morning about the recognition.

“Magnet designation is confirmation of our culture of excellence,” said Mary Boosalis, president and CEO of Premier.

About 8 percent of U.S. hospitals have the four-year designation. According to Premier, the health system is among 20 that have system-wide Magnet status.

Dayton Children’s Hospital also has Magnet status, which it received for the second time in July.

The hospitals were evaluated on metrics such as empowerment and autonomy of nurses, work environment, nurse satisfaction, patient satisfaction, nurse education and research and patient outcomes.

Appraisers visited Premier’s hospital campuses for a weeklong site visit in November, and met with physicians, administrators and 546 clinical nurses.
