DC transit authority launches partnership with Dayton’s CommuterAds

CommuterAds — the Dayton-based geo-located, time and place-based media company — said Friday it will display ads on buses operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority.

Founded in 2008, CommuterAds helps companies reach transit riders by displaying GPS-enabled ads as buses approach business locations.

The company’s technology is also being used on transportation in 14 other U.S. cities, working for a range of advertisers, from regional brands to large national corporations, such as McDonald’s and 7-Eleven.

“Two main factors helped inspire the idea for the company,” company founder Russ Gottesman said. “I was an avid transit rider and worked as a marketing manager for the traffic division for Westwood One. As I was coming home from a baseball game on the Chicago Red Line approaching Chinatown, I wondered why restaurants couldn’t speak directly to local riders when they’re hungry after a game.”
