During the shoot, a car will drive down the street of neatly kept, middle-class homes with nice porches. Because the movie is set during the 1990s, the film crew is asking residents to pull their vehicles as far up their driveways as possible – ideally, behind houses or in garages - so they’re not visible.
According to the media outlet deadline.com, which follows Hollywood news, “Dry Run” is based on the actual story of defense attorney Robert Bilott, played by Ruffalo, who filed an environmental lawsuit against chemical company DuPont, exposing decades of chemical pollution.
Since 2009, at least a dozen films have been shot in Hamilton, including the Robert Redford/Casey Affleck mov, “Old Man and the Gun”; the John Travolta movie “Gotti”; the Cate Blanchett/Mara Rooney film “Carol,” which received six Academy Award nominations; and Zac Efron’s “Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile.”
Redford’s performance in 2018’s ‘The Old Man and the Gun” earned him a Golden Globe nomination in this year’s awards.
Aside from Hathaway (‘The Princess Diaries,” Academy Award winner for best performance by an actress in “Les Misérables”) and Ruffalo (who plays Hulk in Marvel’s “Avengers” films with three Oscar nominations), the film also features Tim Robbins (“Bull Durham,” “City of Ember,” and Oscar winner for “Mystic River”).
The film’s director is Todd Haynes, whose “Carol” was filmed in Butler County and Cincinnati and earned six Academy Award nominations.
“I think they chose a great neighborhood to film,” said resident Kieh Kirby. “They definitely have other options in Hamilton to choose from, so I think it’s really cool they chose Highland Park.”
“Any time there’s a movie in Hamilton, I make sure to watch it so I can see what parts of Hamilton are being shown,” Kirby said.
