2) AFRICAN AMERICAN CULTURAL FEST
Culture, arts and entertainment showcasing the richness of the Black experience will all be on display when the Dayton African American Cultural Festival returns to town on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 22-23. This two-day, family-friendly event will again be held in two locations. The festival is at Island Park, 101 E. 3) THE MENUS
The Menus are one of the few acts to make Fraze Pavilion, 695 Lincoln Park Blvd., Kettering a regular stop each summer. In fact, the continued draw of the popular cover band warranted two bookings on this year’s schedule. 4) “OUTSIDE MULLINGAR”
"Outside Mullingar" isn't as well-known as some of award-winning playwright John Patrick Shanley's works such as "Moonstruck" and "Doubt," but word is spreading. The romantic comedy received positive reviews in the New York Times when it opened on Broadway in January 2014. Dayton Theatre Guild's production of "Outside Mullingar" opens in the Caryl D. Philips TheatreScape, 430 Wayne Ave., Dayton, on Friday, Aug. 21. 5) JAKE JOHANNSEN
Jake Johannsen has been doing stand-up since the 1980s and made dozens of network television appearance. However, the Iowa native is still branching out professionally. In July, he did his first week of dates in England. Johannsen, a self-confessed raconteur of weird stories inspired by real events, returns to town for a run at Wiley's Comedy Joint, 101 Pine St., Dayton, where he's performing Thursday through next Saturday, Aug. 27-29. Reggae singer Pato Banton's summer is filled with high-profile musical events including the 420 Games in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco and the 14th annual Soul Rebel Festival in Boulder, Colo. 7) NEXT GEN WRESTLING
It has been three years since concert and wrestling promotion team of brothers Ben and Chadwick Parker opened Rock Star Pro Arena, 1106 E. Third St., Dayton. The multipurpose venue has become a regular spot for local and touring rock acts, but wrestling events are the main draw. There are the weekly Wednesday night fights and special events such as the Next Generation of Rock Star Pro Wrestling at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21. 8) DARKE COUNTY FAIR
There are some large county fairs in the area, but few have the history, size and scope of the Great Darke County Fair. The 159th annual fair opens at the Darke County Fairgrounds, 800 Sweitzer St., Greenville, at 7 a.m. Friday, Aug. 21. The massive event features amusement rides, carnival games, food, live entertainment, 4-H demonstrations, tractor pulls and more. Country singer Hunter Hayes performs at the fair at 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 23. Concert tickets are $37 and $40. Fair admission is $6 ages 12 and older, free for children 11 and younger with paying adult. Nine-day passes are $20 per person ages 12 and older. The fair runs through Saturday, Aug. 29. 9) DIGISAURUS
Columbus group Digisaurus made its live debut earlier this year, but the group's roots stretch back to 2013. Founder James Allison, a native of London, England, began collaborating with different musicians that year and one of the byproducts was Digisaurus, Allison's moniker for a collection of synth-pop rock songs. The group — which released its debuted EP, "No More Room For Love," on June 23 — performs at Canal Public House, 308 E. First St., Dayton, at 9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22. 10) FOOD TRUCK RALLY
Like the growing number of creators of Dayton-produced craft beer, the number of locally owned food trucks has been on the rise in recent years. With an increased variety of offerings it can often be hard to know where to start. If you find yourself in that predicament, then the Yellow Cab, 700 E. Fourth St., Dayton has the event for you. The venue presents it monthly Food Truck Rally from 5 to 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 21. Mobile food purveyors participating in this installment include Ramen Rickshaw, Go Cupcake, the Painted Pepper, the Drunken Waffle and Asian Persuasion. Cost: free.
