What was life like here a century ago? Here’s your chance to hear about it

Butler County historian Richard O Jones will give a talk tonight that looks back at what was happening a century ago here in the region.

Jones, a former Journal-News reporter who also manages True Crime Historian and writes about a variety of history subjects, including riveting crimes, will give his presentation 7 p.m. at Miami University Hamilton’s downtown location, 225 High St.

The free event will touch on several topics that were in the news that year.

“I’ve been doing this program since 2014, and every February I like to give an overview of the headlines and top news stories from 100 years ago,” Jones said. “So for 1918, we will learn about Hamilton’s involvement in World War I, the beginnings of the flood control program responding to the 1913 flood, a particularly nasty blizzard, and an influenza epidemic among other things.”

Here’s one other thing he noted he will discuss: “A big murder case!”

The Miami downtown location offers a variety of entertaining and educational events through the year.
