Niederman Family Farm celebrates 70th birthday — and you can get free homemade ice cream today

The Niederman Family Farm will celebrate its 70th birthday during its annual Fall Festival. The family purchased the farm in 1948.

“This year is our 70th birthday, so the maze itself is cut in the shape of birthday cake and a party hat. When you come into the Fall Festival, you pay one price for an admission wrist band, and then everything is included except for pumpkins and food,” said Farm Manager Brian Garver.

He said it’s neat to see the farm preserved as a look back into the past.

“In terms of our family, as things grow and change, it’s nice to be known as a staple in the community, or an event that families can count on in the fall season to make lasting memories,” Garver said.

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL

The Niederman Family Farm Fall Festival will run through Sunday, Oct. 28. The $12 price of admission includes a mega-corn maze, a mini-corn maze, a visit to the pumpkin patch, hay rides, a jumping/bounce pillow, a community bonfire pit, animal exhibits, games and more.

This is the 17th season for the Fall Festival.

SPECIAL EVENTS

Special events will include a "American Heroes Weekend" on Sept. 21-23. During that weekend, police officers, firefighters, EMTs and members of the military with appropriate ID will receive one free admission. Immediate family members will receive half-off admission at the gate.

To celebrate the farm turning 70, there will be a Niederman Family Farm Birthday Bash on Saturday, Sept. 22 and Sunday, Sept. 23, with free, homemade ice cream served from 2 to 4 p.m.

There will be a "Touch-A-Tractor" weekend on Friday, Oct. 5 through Sunday, Oct. 7 with farm equipment and machinery on display. On Friday, Oct. 5, DJ Fred will be playing Halloween favorites and more.

A "Taste of Niederman" will be held on Oct. 12-14 with samples of many popular items for guests to try.

Halloween events will take place the weekend of Oct. 26-28. One evening will be slightly spooky. Walk cautiously through the maze from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 26, because you don’t know what else is in the maze with you. Niederman’s will host a Costume Party on Sunday, Oct. 28. Children dressed in a family-friendly costume will receive a free admission.

NEW FOOD

There are some new food areas this year. Farmer Bob’s will be a doughnut and drink area. A new “Everything Apple” area will sell caramel apples, apple shortcake, apple cider and more. Cinnamon-sugar roasted nuts will be available for the first time. And there’s a Summer Kitchen, offering bottled drinks, kettle corn, cotton candy and glow sticks.
