Good Neighbor House needs supplies

The Good Neighbor House is a faith-based non-profit organization that has provided basic necessities to the needy in our community for 24 years.

Located at 627 E. First Street, Good Neighbor House provides dental, medical and optical care to people who are under-insured or uninsured. Free counseling with a licensed counselor is offered and the organization also sponsors a Choice Pantry where clients can come and select food items for their families. The food pantry serves all areas of the Miami Valley.

Also offered: a “by appointment only” Special Dietary Needs Pantry that links those with chronic illnesses — such as diabetes, hypertension or renal disease with a Dietitian, Health Counseling sessions, treatment plans and other educational tools to help manage their illness.

The organization’s thrift store offers everything from towels and linens to kitchen items and gives those who are financially challenged a place to shop. Visitors can take one of the daily classes offered at the “Wellness Program” and earn a $20 voucher to be spent at the Thrift Store.

“We started the Wellness Classes as a means to educate our community on issues that we all face,” says Marcia Raglin, Wellness Program Coordinator at Good Neighbor House. “Our exercise, cooking demos and spiritual classes are a huge draw to our clients. There is a connection between many of our clients that attend the programs. This is their safe place, their social time and they are now forming their own community with our classes.”

Here’s what they need.

  • Breakfast items: hot/cold cereal, dry cereal, breakfast bars
  • Soups: especially ramen noodles
  • Personal care items: soap, deodorant, shampoo, lotion
  • Linens, blankets and comforters (can be gently used except for pillows)
  • Coffeemakers, toasters, toaster ovens, blenders, electric grills
  • Pots/Pans or bake-ware
  • Coffee cups
  • Glass or Plastic Ware
  • Towels, washcloths and hand towels

Items can be dropped off at 627 E. First St. from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Friday.
