Smoke was showing from the two-story house.
It’s not clear if anyone was injured in the fire.
That night, firefighters responded to an apartment bulding around 9 p.m. in the 1300 block of West Fairview Avenue.
Crews arrived to find smoke and fire on the second floor of the three-story building. Firefighters used multiple hose lines to contain the fire, said Datyon Fire Assistant Chief Brad French.
“The fire originated in a second-floor apartment and spread vertically within the building to multiple other apartments and into the attic,” he said. “The aggressive efforts of several Dayton Fire Department crews successfully saved a large portion of the building.”
No injuries were reported.
The Dayton Fire Department Investigations Unit determined the cause of the fire was accidental and the result of unattended cooking, French said.
The Red Cross helped multiple families who were displaced from the apartment building.
Damage estimates are pending.
Butler Twp., Trotwood and Kettering provided mutual aid.
