Amazon will pay double minimum wage to deliver in Ohio this holiday season

With the expected jump in online shopping this year, Amazon is willing to pay more than double minimum wage in some parts of Ohio for delivery drivers.

The seasonal jobs in Columbus, pay $17.25 per hour. In Euclid, near Cleveland, a job posting offers $15.50. There are no delivery postings for Dayton and Cincinnati, but Amazon has other job opportunities for a Prime Now assistant manager and assistant manager positions for military veterans in Cincinnati and warehouse positions in Fairfield.

The jobs were updated three days ago, as the company looks to bulk up its in-house delivery after announcing free delivery on more than 3 million items for non-Prime members without a minimum payment.

Reports that Amazon wanted to create its own delivery service that would directly rival UPS and FedEx began surfacing earlier this year, and the company ordered 20,000 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vans to help build its fleet in September.

The job posting says drivers will deliver packages to home, businesses and retail locations in vans carrying up to 10,000 pounds.
