Architectural team to get started on plans for former Americana park, other Monroe sites

Monroe will be moving ahead on four park projects.

City Council approved resolutions for the city to enter agreements with Brandstetter Carroll Inc. for professional architectural services for Monroe Bicentennial Commons, the Baker Sports Complex and Monroe Community Park as well as for a professional engineering contract for Monroe Crossings Park to continue progress on that park improvement project.

City Manager Bill Brock said the agreement with Brandstetter Carroll is to help define what the next steps are for Monroe Bicentennial Commons. He said this will include creating schematic designs on what the buildings will look like and where the utilities will be located. Brock said a couple of different projects have been picked such as the entry way, playground, restrooms, and how the bike path interacts with that.

Brock said the initial fee is $100,000,which includes $27,000 for the schematics, $66,000 phase one construction documents and topographic survey of $7,000. He said the city has already budgeted these funds for this project.

For the Baker Sports Complex, Brock said $13,000 would be spent to design the dog park and parking lot for $13,000.

Brock said the projects for Monroe Community Park would be $79,180 that would provide for the expansion of the parking lot and the overall design of the park. Included in that amount will be $34,216 for bidding assistance and construction administration, $23,000 for design work, and $2,700 for a topographic survey $23,000 design and $34,216 for bidding assistance and construction administration.

The city also submitted an application and was awarded $165,000 in funding from the state’s Capital Improvement budget for a community recreation project for Monroe Crossings Park.

Brock said for several years, the Monroe Sports Association/Monroe Soccer has been requesting that a safety shelter and restroom facility be added near the back of the park where most of the soccer fields are located. This was also a recommendation that was included in the Parks System Master Plan, he said.

The design and construction administration contract for the shelter and restroom facilities will cost $18,100. Once that is completed, the city will proceed with construction of the new facilities once the funds become available.
