Liberty Center shuts down line at Build-A-Bear special promotion ‘due to being at capacity’

UPDATE @ 5:40 p.m.:

Liberty Center has posted to its Facebook page that the line for Build-A-Bear’s Pay Your Age promotion has been shut down “due to being at capacity.”

“The promotion has been ended for the day once the line is finished,” reads the post to the mixed-used center’s Facebook page.

Liberty Center officials told this news outlet the line was shut down at around 5 p.m.

UPDATE @ 1:45 p.m.:

The line for shoppers to enter the Build-A-Bear Workshop at Liberty Center continues to grow, stretching around the retail center’s indoor mall.

Darcy Blankenship, of Camden, said she got in line with her 3-year-old daughter and 1-year-old son at 9:45 a.m. She said her four-hour wait moved them about halfway through the line from the Cincinnati Children’s Discovery Center to the front of Old Navy.

Despite the potentially hours-long wait ahead of her, she said she planned to remain in line to take advantage of the deal.

FIRST REPORT:

The Build-A-Bear Workshop in Liberty Center remains open as other stores nationwide are closing the lines to shoppers who are looking to cash in on a special pay your age promotion.

Liberty Center said this morning that a closing of its Build-A-Bear store is the retail center’s own decision and its store would stay open unless it sells out.

If it must close the store, Liberty Center officials said they would inform people of the decision via their Facebook page.

Kenwood Towne Centre already did that earlier today, first informing shoppers via social media earlier that the “unprecedented response” to the promotion led to “significantly longer than expected lines and large crowds.”

The mall said local police required them to limit the lines and crowds due to safety concerns.

Kenwood Towne Centre posted at 12:19 p.m. that Build A Bear had closed the lines for the promotion and directed inquiries to 1-877-789-2327.

According to the company, local authorities across the country have told the stores to close the lines and not accept any more guests in the stores in the U.S. and Canada. For more information, click here.
