The city of Centerville paid 11 employees more than $100,000 last year, one fewer than in in 2016, according to the I-Team Payroll Project searchable database of public employees.

The city’s highest-paid employee last year was Gregory Horn, who retired in July after serving as Centerville city manager since 1992. His compensation totaled $171,190 last year.
An I-Team investigation last year found the ability to cash out unused sick and vacation leave is a rare perk in the private sector, though local governments are on the hook for tens of millions of dollars worth of these payments.

The third highest-paid worker last year was Bruce Robertson, former police chief who retired in February of this year. He came under scrutiny after his retirement over allegations he was teaching law enforcement classes while on the clock for the city. An internal investigation cleared him of any criminal violations but concluded he violated his contract by not getting written approval for the side job.
