Child Development Centers transition to new registration process

The Child Development Centers on Wright-Patterson Air Force Base began implementing a new online registration process for parents last year.

Instead of using paper forms, parents must now fill out and maintain records at MilitaryChildCare.com, a Department of Defense website used by all military branches and many installations across the world.

Through MCC, parents can create an account, search and request facility-based or in-home child care. MCC will send parents a notification when space opens up at their requested center.

MCC allows parents to request care at multiple facilities and remain on a waitlist even after receiving care from a different child care center.

“It’s all electronic,” said Crissy Habel, director of Wright Field North CDC. “Parents can go in at any given time and make updates. They can request overnights and weekends. Everything is at their fingertips and at our fingertips, too.”

Parents can sign into their MCC account from a personal computer instead of strictly a government computer.

The MCC registration process allows parents to have access to their position on the CDC waiting list, update request information and cancel requests, if needed.

Upon registration, parents enter family information into an MCC profile. The profile stores important items, such as the sponsor’s name, the child’s data and parent contact information.

To stay on a requested waiting list, parents should reconfirm their child care request once a month, as required by MCC. They will receive an email notification when the renewal deadline approaches.

Habel recommends that “parents should use multiple email addresses. They shouldn’t use only their government email address.” This is to ensure that spouses of active-duty and civilian employees on base can access the profile using a personal email.

Civilians can register and request care, but first priority for the waiting list is given to wounded warriors, installation employees and military members.
