The city of Clayton paid four employees more than $100,000 last year, one more than in in 2016, according to the I-Team Payroll Project searchable database of public employees.

Local governments make payroll with your money, which is why the I-Team has assembled and made available a searchable database of pay for public employees.

An I-Team investigation last year found the ability to cash out unused sick and vacation leave is a rare perk in the private sector, though local governments are on the hook for tens of millions of dollars worth of these payments.

Clayton’s 10 highest-paid employees last year were: 

1. Richard Rose, city manager: $128,227

2. Matthew Hamlin, chief of police: $105,626

3. Kevin Schweitzer, finance director: $104,815

4. Brian Garver, fire chief: $104,744

5. John Kuntz, director of development: $94,356

6. Darrell Sanders, public service director: $94,334

7. Scott Wagner, firefighter/paramedic: $90,585

8. Michael Seagraves, firefighter/paramedic: $87,702

9. Paula Creech, firefighter/paramedic: $86,813

10. Daniel Hamlin, police sergeant: $86,164
